  24. Kermit 95 is presently an English-only application -- as far as the
  25. user interface goes.  But...

  27.  . It supports conversion of a wide variety of character sets,
  28.    including Japanese, as part of the text-mode file-transfer process.

  30.  . It supports terminal emulation in a wide variety of single-byte
  31.    character sets.  There is, at present, no specific provision for
  32.    CJK character sets in terminal emulation, but that's on the list of
  33.    future enhancements.

  35. Note, however, that if your PC has a Japanese code page (Shift JIS) loaded
  36. and usable in console windows, Kermit 95 might just work with it anyway --
  37. like MS-DOS Kermit works with the GB and Big5 Chinese character sets, even
  38. though it contains no specific code for doing so -- if you "set term byte
  39. 8" and "set term character-set transparent".  Of course, in this case, you
  40. don't get translation during terminal emulation, but if the remote
  41. computer or service uses Shift-JIS, then you have legible Japanese text
  42. on your screen.

  44. We don't have access to any Japanese Windows 95 systems, so we can't do
  45. more than speculate.  So my best advice would be for somebody that does to
  46. try it and report back.
